Pretty bold words from the acting Surgeon General, Boris Lushniak, last month. Lushniak was at an annual meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine when he threw down the gauntlet.
“Physical inactivity is the major public health issue in this country,” he said.
The ACSM was an obvious group for the Surgeon General to talk to about the connection between activity and health but he went further. He draws connections between active living and community vitality, local business, and national economic trends.
“If we’re going to survive as a nation, if we’re going to thrive as a nation, we really have to change [our] focus on sickness and illness to one of health, prevention and wellness.”
Way to hit the nail on the head, Surgeon General!
